National Institute of Technology Calicut is partnering with NITIE Mumbai in the initiatives to support the PM Gati Shakti Scheme. As an ambitious initiative, NIT Calicut has launched a Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (CoELSCM) to contribute to the realization of the objectives of the PM Gati Shakti scheme. This Centre of Excellence is a multidisciplinary centre that works across various research groups such as Industrial Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technology, Construction Management and Cyber Security. Faculty members and their research team will be a part of this Centre. This team will focus on new and emerging technologies with multidisciplinary and translational research relevant to achieving PM Gati Shakti's objectives of improving the supply chain's operational efficiency and minimizing logistics costs. The Centre will initiate steps in disseminating advanced knowledge and promote Digitisation, Analytics, IoT applications, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications among the practicing professionals in the organizations involved in the logistics sector and will share the best practices.
Create an association between academia and industry to promote cutting-edge research, knowledge creation, ground breaking innovations and capacity-building programmes in the Indian logistics and supply chain sector in order to make it effective and efficient.

two week-long AICTE Training and Learning Academy (ATAL) sponsored Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled "Digital Supply Chain Management” from September 19 - 30, 2022. Out of 50 registered participants, 33 participants successfully completed the course by satisfying the criteria of ATAL Academy by securing more than 70% for assessments and 80% attendance. Prof. V. Episode 1 of this Webinar series was held on January 19, 2023, on the topic "Opportunities and Challenges of Rail Freight Operations in India”. The resource person for the first episode of the Webinar Series was Shri. Siva R., Deputy Chief Operations Manager Freight, Southern Railways. During the session, Shri. Siva presented the trends in Rail freight over the years and the reforms in the freight sector undertaken by Indian Railways. The details of the National Rail Plan 2030 and the initiatives of Indian Railways to reduce the transport cost were also enunciated. He also described the current status of the Indian Infrastructure projects and major proposals for the PM Gati Shakti scheme such as Dedicated Freight Corridors and Gati Shakti Terminals. Shri. Siva concluded the session by highlighting the various challenges for Indian Railways in increasing the train length and wagon capacity. The resource person for the third episode of the Webinar Series was Mr. Rajesh Menon Maritime Expert, Technical Support Unit, PM Gati Shakti, Ministry of Port Shipping and Waterways, Govt. of India. During the session, Mr. Rajesh Menon presented the PM Gati Shakti program launched by the Indian government for infrastructure development. The program aims to create a national logistics policy for an efficient and cost-effective logistics ecosystem, with targets of reducing logistics costs and improving logistics performance by 2030. The program is based on six pillars, including project planning, monitoring, optimization, synchronization, analytical decisions, and interdepartmental coordination. He also highlighted the need for a National Master Plan for infrastructure development, a GIS-based digital platform for better visibility and decision-making support. The existing transportation infrastructure and various schemes for transportation infrastructure in India were also discussed.
